Malcolm MacGregor, Esq. Elected President of PAJ

PAJ is changing how it approaches membership development, how it fosters relations with regional trial lawyer associations, and is revising its technology infrastructure. A key figure in planning these changes has been Malcolm L. MacGregor, Esq. of McDonald & MacGregor, LLC, Scranton. Malcolm was elected in June as the Association's new President..

No stranger to leadership, Mal currently serves as Chair of PAJ’s Membership Task Force, as a member of its Executive Committee, and on its Board of Governors. He has served PAJ in numerous roles over the past two decades, including CLE, Membership and Budget committee efforts. Mal also has the honor of having been elected as the current President of his “home” Lackawanna Bar Association. In the past, he served as the Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Council, as President of the Federal Bar Association’s Middle District Chapter, and as a court appointee to the Lawyer Advisory Committee of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Mal founded the law firm of McDonald & MacGregor, LLC of Scranton in 2011 with his longtime colleague and friend, Michael McDonald.

Mal’s long record of service to the legal community grew from the deep roots he has planted and cultivated with his fellow Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers. He has been a frequent lecturer at educational seminars and a contributor to law-related publications for PAJ, the Pennsylvania, Lackawanna, and NEPA Trial Lawyer Associations, as well as for the regional TLA organization, The Committee for Justice for All of Northeastern PA.

Attorney MacGregor’s experience as a leading Trial Lawyer on the side of people is considerable. In his twenty-four years of trying and settling significant personal injury cases, he has obtained a number of seven figure verdicts and settlements on behalf of victims of injury throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania, including medical negligence settlements of $7.4 Million (Birth Trauma), $6.5 Million (Anesthesia), and $4.5 Million (Neurosurgery). He and his Partner, Michael McDonald, obtained a 5.4 Million verdict on behalf of the family of Maureen Thiel (Wrongful Death, Failure to Diagnose Breast Cancer), which remains the highest medical malpractice verdict ever in Monroe County. It was among the highest medical malpractice verdicts obtained in Pennsylvania that year and culminated with their client creating a 501(c)(3) foundation, “Maureen’s Mission”, dedicated to assisting women identify signs of breast cancer. More than any verdict or settlement, Malcolm is humbled by the great trust his clients have shown in him throughout his career.

A proud graduate of the University of Scranton, Mal earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications in 1986. He went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, in Washington, D.C., in 1989. He was a former partner and Trial Counsel at the law firm of Foley, McLane, Foley, McDonald & MacGregor, P.C., where he was encouraged to become active in the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association by his former partner and PATLA President, Thomas J. Foley, Jr. Malcolm is a grateful husband and proud father of four wonderful children, Joshua, Lily, Sam and Isabel. He is mindful and wishes to publically acknowledge that without the love and support of his wife Ann, his extended family and the dedicated staff at McDonald & MacGregor, LLC, these opportunities to serve would not be possible.
